Police investigate possible attempted child abduction
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Police are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction in Clayton County. The incident happened Tuesday on Freedom Way outside Jonesboro.
Shakira Dean said she had returned home with her four-year-old daughter from running errands. She thought the child ran inside the house to be with relatives while she sat in the car to finish up a call. Then, she said, she heard lots of commotion near her driveway.
"I looked back and I saw a man beating the steering wheel and cursing, and I was like, 'what is really going on?' I saw the lady get out of the car," Dean said.
Dean said she saw the woman, in her 50s, grab her daughter's bike and she assumed that was all the pair was after until she heard the man repeat, “put her in the car.”
At that point, Dean told FOX 5's Marissa Mitchell she got out of her vehicle, saw the pair drive off with the bike, and found her child on the ground crying and shaking. She added the girl told her the woman tried to grab her.
"It's heart-wrenching. I thought I was going to pass out. As a mother, that is one of your greatest fears: someone taking your children," Dean stressed.
Clayton County Police said they're investigating the matter, looking for any possible surveillance video of the vehicle or people involved and canvassing the area.
They believe the two are in a mid-2000s gray Chevy Impala.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the police.
