Police are trying to unravel a murder mystery in northwest Atlanta. A man was found shot to death in the back seat of a white sedan in the parking lot of the Sierra Ridge Apartment Complex on Delmar Lane NW.

Atlanta Police Homicide investigators responded around 4:45 in the afternoon. Officers quickly scoured for evidence around the car where the victim, a man in his 20s was found dead, shot multiple times apparently while inside the vehicle.

“We found him in the back seat, we’re not sure of that’s where he was when he arrived or if he got out and got in the back seat,” said Lt. Charles Hampton, Commander of the APD Homicide Squad.

He said it is unclear sure what brought the victim, the passenger in the car and another man, the driver to the complex in the first place. The driver was taken to APD headquarters for questioning about who may have done the shooting.

“There may have been actually two individuals who opened fire on the vehicle. Again, hopefully we’ll get more information from the driver,” said Lt. Hampton.

Several residents of the complex approached by FOX 5 News refused to speak for fear of retribution. One woman who would only identify herself as Cassandra was coming home when the murder occurred.

“I’m just getting off work myself and the other time the other incident happened I was just getting off work then,” said Cassandra.

She said this latest shooting comes too soon after the one two days ago near here, which also left a man dead.

“I feel if it’s nonsense and I mean we have to stop the violence that's all,” said Cassandra.

Police are still trying to determine if there is any connection between the two murders so near in time and space to each other.

Atlanta police homicide spent Friday afternoon and into the night trying to glean information from fearful reluctant residents.

“We’re ready, but we need some assistance because obviously we know that people know what’s going on and again, I believe that they are afraid,” said Lt. Hampton.

He said it’s unclear if the two men believed responsible for the murder fled on foot or got away in a car. The identity of the man who was killed has not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. There is a $2,000 reward. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
