ATLANTA - A man is in custody after police say he drove a car into the lobby of a downtown Atlanta hotel overnight.
Officials say they were responding to a vehicle crash downtown on the 100 block of Courtland Street that turned into a hit and run investigation involving a black Volkswagon Passat.
While officers were on the scene, a security guard reported that the vehicle had backed into the Sheraton's doors.
When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to get out of the car and drove into the lobby of the hotel.
"I guess he got spooked and for some reason, he drove his car inside the lobby of the Sheraton right here on Courtland Avenue," APD Captain Graham said. "He backed it up to the elevator and got on the elevator."
Officers arrested the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Houston Garner of Canton, on the 11th floor of the hotel.
