Police: Man shoots self at Sandy Springs hospital

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Sandy Springs Police said officers are investigating after man shot himself inside a hospital Monday afternoon.

It happened at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sandy Springs. Police said a man in his 70s who had been visiting his wife inside the hospital shot himself. He died from his wounds, police said.

Police are investigating this as a possible suicide attempt, but are not ruling out the possibility it was an accident. Investigators spent the early evening speaking with people who were nearby when it happened.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 5 p.m. and spotted several police cars outside the hospital. There was a report the hospital was on lockdown for a brief time, but that has not been confirmed by the hospital.
