Police: Man shot, killed breaking into family car
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Police are investigating after a Gwinnett County resident shot and killed a man who was trying to break into his family's car.
It happened around 1 a.m. Friday on Mayfield Farms Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Police said the teen, identified as 20-year-old Robbie Morton, heard sounds coming from outside his family's home, so he went outside with a gun. That's when he came face-to-face with 50-year-old James Brock trying to break into a car parked in the driveway.
Police said when Morton challenged Brock in the driveway, Brock lunged at him. Morton fired several times, killing him, according to police.
FOX 5 News spoke with Russ Morton, Robbie's father, who was thankful his son is alright.
"He just defended himself, thank God," Mr. Morton said.
Investigators said Morton is not facing any charges at this time because it appears he acted in self-defense.
Investigators said there does not seem to be any link between Morton and Brock.
