Police: School bus driver arrested after students find gun in her purse
BARROW COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A Barrow County school bus driver has been taken into custody after police say students discovered a gun inside her purse that was left on a bus.
According to officials, a student at Sims Academy found the purse on Tuesday. When the student looked inside the purse to find its owner, they discovered a gun and bullets.
The student immediately notified school officials at the front desk, which triggered an investigation.
Officers determined the purse belonged to 59-year-old Mary Jo Hall of Statham, Georgia, an employee with the school system as a bus driver.
Hall was taken into custody. While charges are pending at this time, officials say she will be charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.
Officers say at no time was any student or faculty member in danger.
