Police: Security guard, teen charged after Family Dollar shooting

Police are investigating a shooting in Lakewood Heights neighborhood in southeast Atlanta.

It happened a little before 10 p.m. Tuesday at a Family Dollar store down the road from the 200 block of Adair Avenue. Atlanta Police said initial indication was someone was shot in the lower back.

After an investigation, police say a David Shockley, a 47-year-old man working as a security guard at the store, shot 19-year-old Casey Williams after a confrontation inside the Family Dollar. Williams became violent and struck Shockley in the face, police said.

Officials then said they found inconsistencies in Shockley's story that he shot Williams after he reached into his pocket.

Williams fled the scene and ended up a little down the road. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Shockley has been charged with aggravated assault and is currently in custody. Williams has been charged with battery.
