BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Investigators say a gunman is still on the run Saturday morning after killing one man and critically injuring another in Brookhaven.
Police said one of the two men found shot in the parking lot of a Waffle House Friday afternoon has died. Investigators also said they were able to find the shooting scene as police unravel a bizarre series of events.
Brookhaven Police said the shooting happened Friday afternoon at the Mille at Brookhaven apartments located along Barone Ave off Clairmont Road. Investigators said a SWAT team raided one of the apartments where the shooting actually took place just before 8 p.m. They did not find anyone inside but were combing over the apartment for evidence of the shooting and clues as to the whereabouts of the gunman.
On Saturday morning, police identified the suspect as being 34-year-old Pierre Gregory Singletary. Authorities have issued two arrest warrants for Singletary for aggravated assault and homicide.
Police said the two men who were shot drove a block south of Clairmont Road to the Waffle House located next to the Interstate 85 access road. That’s where police said the 911 call came reporting the shooting. Officers and emergency personnel immediately swarmed the area.
Two men were rushed to an area hospital, where one of the men later died. The second man was reported to be in critical condition as of early Friday evening after having undergone surgery.
Around 7 p.m., after speaking to a few witnesses, investigators were able to isolate the apartment where they believed the men were shot. They called in a SWAT team to surround the complex while police obtained warrants. Police asked nearby residents to remain indoors during that hour. Again, no one was found inside when they made entry.
Brookhaven Police said they working closely with DeKalb County Police and neighboring Chamblee Police because they were not initially sure where the actual shooting took place.
SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene of the Waffle House around 4 p.m. and spotted heavy police activity in the parking lot. Investigators towed the men’s car and placed it into evidence before clearing the scene.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
Singletary is described as being 5-feet-6-inches tall with a weight of 170 pounds.
