Police: Thieves target Atlanta's airport rental car lot
ATLANTA - Young people, seven of them, showed up at the Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport’s rental car lot last Wednesday night. None had a reservation.
Their intent was to take seven cars by force, according to police.
A car lot attendant told police one of the suspects pulled a gun, then they all jumped into vehicles and tried to drive off.
When they attempted to exit, a security barrier came out of the ground, preventing their mass getaway.
The thieves rammed the barriers with only one managing to get through.
Airport commander timothy peek called the incident “extremely dangerous”.
He said he will meet soon with representatives from the car companies to find ways to tighten security.
