GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Investigators in Gwinnett County said they have arrested a 58-year-old Uber driver after police said he raped a 16-year-old girl, and are concerned the suspect may have preyed on more women.
Abdoulie Jagne, of College Park, was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail Thursday afternoon on a rape charge, but authorities said more charges could be coming.
Gwinnett County Police released information about Jagne in the hopes that more women who were possibly victimized could come forward.
Police said officers were called out to an apartment complex off Old Norcross Tucker Road after receiving 911 calls about someone banging on their door early Monday morning. Officers said they found the teen, who police said appeared to be extremely intoxicated, with her pants around her ankles.
The teen told police she was out at a bar drinking with friends and one of them scheduled a ride through the ride-sharing service Uber to get her home. The 16-year-old girl was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Police contacted Uber, who investigators said helped them track down Jagne, his vehicle, and even the driver data that showed Jagne delayed taking his passenger home to her destination. Police believe the alleged incident happened somewhere along South Norcross Tucker Road in between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Old Norcross Tucker Road in unincorporated Norcross.
Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies told FOX 5, the fugitive unit went to arrest Jagne at his address in College Park, but went to a different apartment address and apprehended him there. Deputies said Jagne's demeanor seemed surprisingly calm, and did not act surprised during the arrest.
Uber told FOX 5, the driver worked for the company for two months and is cooperating with police on their investigation. A statement from the company reads:
“What’s reported here is horrifying beyond words. Our thoughts are with the rider and her family during this time. This driver has been permanently removed from the app."
