Investigators are trying to determine what happened in the moments before police said a woman shot her companion in southwest Atlanta Monday morning.

It happened inside a unit at Deerfield Gardens Apartments on Campbellton Road just after 8:30 a.m. The victim was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner as 27-year-old Marlon Green, Jr.

Investigators said they got a call about a domestic violence situation and upon arrival found Green shot to death. Police said the women who pulled the trigger was cooperative with officers when they arrived.

“We know this started with some sort of verbal altercation, but we’re still trying to figure out how the gun played into all of this and what happened before. We do believe she pulled the trigger,” said APD Lt. Charles Hampton.

Police said the woman accused of pulling the trigger is the male victim's wife. Her name has not yet been released.

Neighbors told FOX 5 News that the woman and Green lived together in the apartment when Green was shot.
