Moreland Avenue reopens in Clayton County after semi truck hits bridge

The Clayton County Police Department notified the public that State Route 42/Moreland Avenue was open again shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Clayton County police are warning drivers that State Route 42 (Moreland Avenue) south of Anvil Block Road is closed because of concrete falling from an overhead railroad bridge.

The police department said on Facebook shortly before 1 p.m. July 17 that the bridge is extensively damaged and debris is falling on the highway.

The damage was caused by an 18-wheeler striking the bridge. Motorists should use caution in the area and take alternate routes until the road is reopened. 

It is unknown if anyone was injured during the incident.
