Man rescued after surviving 2 months adrift near Siberian coast

null - A man in Russia was finally rescued after spending nearly 10 weeks adrift on a boat off the Siberian Coast in the Sea of Okhotsk.
The Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office said the rescue happened on October 14.
Russian authorities were first alerted in August about the "disappearance of a group of people traveling on a small-sized vessel"
Authorities said two men and the son of one of them, a 15-year-old, had left on a whale-watching trip from Cape Perovsky, in Russia’s far eastern region, on a catamaran-type boat.
The group intended to go to Okha, further up north. However, communication was lost and a search and rescue operation began.
On Monday, fishermen discovered the vessel near the village of Ust-Khairyuzovo, and one man was found alive.

Tragically, the other man and his son had died, Russian authorities said.
The Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office released video of the rescue, showing the survivor gesticulating from the boat.
Local news outlets said the survivor is a 46-year-old man and is being treated at a hospital. Media outlets also reported that the two people who died were the brother and nephew of the 46-year-old-man, and he kept their bodies on the boat with him for the whole period he was missing.
An investigation is underway as to what caused the boat to get lost at sea.
