SC woman caught on dash cam stealing police car
SUMTER, SC - A South Carolina woman accused of stealing several vehicles and running from police faces a list of charges.
Deputies said the spree started when 21-year-old Mia Thornton stole her boyfriend's car. But when it broke down, she hitched a ride.
Thornton then grabbed the wheel and forced that car into another vehicle.
According to deputies, when the car owner got out to check the damage, Thornton sped off, but crashed nearby.
A tow truck driver brought Thornton back where deputies were waiting for her. But it doesn't end there.
Dash cam video released by police show Thornton somehow slipping out of the handcuffs and stealing the police car.
Thornton led deputies on a 15-minute chase that ended when investigators said she crashed.
Charges include auto theft, assault, and assault with intent to kill.
