Shooting leaves Vining residents on edge

Cobb County police are searching for a killer. Investigators say someone shot a man multiple times early Sunday morning at an apartment complex in the Vinings.

Police are searching for the suspect in a deadly shooting outside a Vinings apartment complex over the weekend.

It happened around 3:50 a.m. Sunday. Demetrius Dow, 40, was found with several gunshot wounds outside the 1400 building at District at Vinings Apartments.

"Medical also arrived on-scene and attempted to work on him, but unfortunately he was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Cobb County Police Sgt. Wayne Delk.

As detectives searched for the gunman they were also trying to determine what led up to the deadly shooting.

"Our detectives try to go back from the point where they discovered the body to what led up to the shooting," said Sgt. Delk.

The apartment management sent an email to residents, telling everyone to be cautious.

"An email went out notifying us there was a violent crime in the community, and it had reminders to stay safe, keep your doors locked, and your blinds closed," said one resident.

As police try to find the gunman, many residents admit they're nervous.

"It's nerve wracking to say the least," said one woman who did not want to be identified.

They're also thinking about their neighbor who lost his life so violently.

"I'm just going to go home, find some peace and process it," said one man named Jason.

Investigators have been talking to residents and studying surveillance video trying to find the person or people responsible.
