1 dead, 1 injured in shooting near Morehouse

One person is dead and another is injured in a shooting near Morehouse College. Officers were called to a gas station on the corner of Sells Avenue and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard.

One person was killed and another injured in a shootout near Morehouse College on Election Day.

Officers were called out on Tuesday afternoon to a gas station on the corner of Sells Avenue SW and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard SW, across the street from Harvey Stadium on the Morehouse College campus.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, up to 10 people were at the BP gas station in a verbal dispute. At some point, multiple people pulled out weapons and began to fire at each other.

A 18-year-old was rushed in critical condition to an area hospital, but died.

A 14-year-old was also injured and was alert, conscious, and breathing when they were transported to the hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation, but police say the shootout started as an argument.

Witnesses told FOX 5 they spotted someone being taken into custody. Police confirmed one person was in custody.

The names and ages of the two people shot have not been released and there is no indication either relates to anyone at the Atlanta University Center.

Police say officers believe most, if not all the people in the argument were armed.

The APD Homicide Unit is investigating.
