1 dead after early morning crash at Powder Springs intersection

One person was killed in a crash on Monday morning in Cobb County near Macland and John Petree roads.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m., according to Cobb County Police Department.

Police say their preliminary investigation revealed that a beige 2004 GMC Yukon was traveling eastbound on Macland Road in the right lane approaching its intersection with John Petree Road. 

Simultaneously, a black 2018 Toyota Camry was crossing Macland Road in a northerly direction at its intersection with John Petree Road. 

The Toyota entered the intersection in the path of the GMC. The front of the GMC collided with the left side of the Toyota. The Toyota was redirected to the northeast and rotated in a counterclockwise direction. 

The Toyota came to an uncontrolled rest in the westbound lanes of Macland Road to the east of the intersection. The front of the Toyota was facing a northeasterly direction.

The GMC continued east and rotated in a counterclockwise direction. The GMC came to an uncontrolled rest in the eastbound lanes of Macland Road. The front of the GMC was facing a westerly direction.

 The driver of the GMC declined EMS transport and was released from the scene. 

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased on scene by personnel from the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
