Severe storms leave behind damage across North Georgia

Another day, another round of severe storms moving through North Georgia. This time, the storms were more widespread bring about a little more damage.

Thursday’s storms caused severe flash flooding in White County and caused the Chattahoochee River to rise three to four feet in just three hours.

Georgia Power reported at the storm's height around 5 p.m., about 26,000 customers were without power. That number dwindled down to about 7,000 customers by the end of the evening.

And delays up to an hour and a half as the worst of the storms passed over Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Friday evening. Airport officials said they were able to catch up by the end of the evening. No word on any canceled flights due to the storms.

Friday, there have multiple reports of damage from trees down to fire started by lightning. Here is a look county-by-county at some of those reports:

CHEROKEE COUNTY

There were reports of hail in Woodstock on Friday afternoon. A FOX 5 viewer shared a video of the hail as it came down.

Just north of Woodstock, a large tree was reportedly down along Holly Springs Parkway and East Cherokee Drive.

Firefighters closed Reinhardt College Parkway at Darby Road due to power lines across the road.

There have other unconfirmed reports of wind damage.

DEKALB COUNTY

In Chamblee, FOX 5 viewer Shawn Anderson shared a video of a tree which fell on an apartment at Chamblee Station.

At Spaghetti Junction, traffic was slow moving as vehicles tried to avoid flood sections of the busy interchange.

FULTON COUNTY

Heavy rain and hail were reported in the area accompanied by lightning.

In Northwest Atlanta, a tree fell on a home, splitting it in tow. Woodley Drive just off Howell Mill. The tree also damaged a second home and caused a gas leak. The family that used to live in the home moved to a home across the street about a week ago, so no one was inside.

GORDON COUNTY

Several trees were reported down along Sugar Valley Road and Red Bud Road.

GWINNETT COUNTY

Firefighters in Gwinnett County were busy Friday afternoon responding to a handful of trees on houses and house fires related to the storms.

Rescue crews responded to the 700 block of Angevine Court, the 4100 block of Richmond Court, and the 5000 block of Woodfall drive all near Lilburn for trees on homes,

They also were dispatched to the 2300 block of Park Estates Drive and the 2400 block of Waterscape Trail, both near Snellville, due to reports of lightning strikes.

FOX 5 Viewer Brittany Michelle White shared photos of a tree which fell on a car at Grayson Parkway and Highway 78 in Snellville. Rescue workers were able to safely pull a woman trapped inside the vehicle. No word on injuries.

The city of Snellville said they were forced to cancel their Food Truck Friday evening after a massive hail storm tore through the Town Greene in front of Snellville City Hall. The city shared photos of destroyed tents and overturned tables and chairs.

Emergency managers said there are several reports of snapped and uprooted trees in the Killian Hills area. They have also received similar reports along Lakeview Driver. Some of the trees are as big as 24 inches across.

At Killian Hill Storage along Five Forks Trickum Road, witnesses said the sky turned purple and started hearing trees coming down. The roof of one of the structures was ripped off and landed nearby.

There have been no reports of injuries.

HALL COUNTY

A storm which moved through Hall County washed out a road and damaged a water main forcing a Boil Water Advisory through at least Saturday for a portion of Flowery Branch.

In northwest Gainesville, several trees were downed along East Lake Drive, Vine Street, South Enota Drive, Tommy Aaron Drive, and Club Drive. A tree was also downed on a home along White Sulpher Road.

HARALSON COUNTY

A tree was downed on Bethlehem Church Road near the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
