Toddler finds dad's gun, shoots self: police

DeKalb County police say a two-year-old found his father's unsecured gun and shot himself Wednesday night. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Now, his dad is facing charges.

Investigators say the 2-year-old boy, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound, has died. His father is now being charged in the toddler’s death. 

Officers were called out shortly after 5:40 p.m. Wednesday to the 1900 block of Shamrock Drive near Rosewood Road.  

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the toddler had found his father’s gun and ended up shooting himself. 

The young boy was rushed to an area hospital with a life-threatening injury, where he died. 

His father, 39-year-old Michael Labiron, was arrested for felony murder and cruelty to children in the second degree. 

Labiron was booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
