GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Gwinnett County Police continued their investigation Thursday afternoon into the morning stabbing of a high school student down the street from the school.
Officers from Gwinnett County’s South Precinct responded to the call in the area of Stone Mountain Highway and Bethany Church Road near Snellville just before 8 a.m.
They found a teenager with a stab wound to his left torso.
The Shiloh High School students told the officer that he was stabbed by a male who was wearing a hoodie and mask along Valley Brook Road.
Medics took the injured teenager to an area hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
Even though the stabbing did not take place on school property, officers went to Shiloh High looking for more information.
While at the school, police said they encountered another teen who they believed was possibly involved in the stabbing. Police took the teen to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters for questioning. After they questioned him, detectives eventually released the teen to family members.
By Thursday afternoon, police still weren’t sure exactly what happened.
Gwinnett County Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Michele Pihera told FOX 5’s Aungelique Proctor, “Right now we don't have any charges. We don't know who the primary aggressor is. It is possible at the end of this somebody completely unrelated to these two people may be charged. It's possible both of these two young men could be facing charges.”
The detective assigned to this case planned to interview the stabbing victim once he is done receiving emergency medical treatment. Officials said the teen was in the surgery Thursday afternoon.
Because of the ages of the teens involved, police did not release their names and exact ages.
The stabbing took place at around 7:50 a.m., which is 45 minutes after classes began at Shiloh.
Cpl. Pihera said, “We don't know if the stabbing victim was on his way to school because he was walking or if he was at a bus stop or if he decided to skip school, we don't know.
People who frequent the area of Stone Mountain Highway like realtor Lauren Pawelko are stunned by the violence.
She said, “That's crazy. You worry about the gun violence. But you don't really think about it. It just breaks my heart.”
