SMYRNA, Ga. - A normally quiet Smyrna gated community got a lot of unwanted attention Thursday morning after gunshots were reported.
It happened in the Jasmine at Galleria Apartments just before 9:20 a.m. Police said the 28-year-old victim was leaving his home when he was ambushed. Police said the shooter was hiding behind a car and opened fire as the man approached.
The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
"What we've learned thus far is that a black male with a thin build was hiding behind a car and when our victim came out he approached him and shot him several times and fled," Officer Louis Defense, Smyrna Police Department.
Officer Defense said while the victim was ambushed, investigators do not know what the motive is.
"Our investigators are combing through surveillance video. They’ve conducted a search warrant on the place, so they're following up on some solid leads," said Officer Defense.
The victim survived. Thursday morning, investigators collected evidence as they tried to figure out why this happened.
Police said the shooter is a think black male with a medium complexion. He was wearing a black shirt, faded blue jeans and a black baseball cap with red and white writing.
