Deputies ID man suspect in Paulding County SWAT standoff
Deputies said a man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a Paulding County SWAT standoff. FOX 5 Atlanta spoke to a family member about what led up to the standoff.
PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. - An overnight SWAT situation in Paulding County has ended with the suspect dead.
The Paulding County Sheriff's Office say the SWAT situation began after officials received a 911 call from a woman living in a home on the 10000 block Buchanan Highway in Temple. The woman told deputies that she and her three children fled the home an argument turned violent that night.
While they were running down their driveway, the woman said her husband fired multiple shots at herself and her children.
The family was able to flag down a passerby who took them to a store in western Paulding County, where the victim met with deputies.
When deputies and a Georgia State Patrol trooper arrived at the home to investigate, officials say the man, identified as 41-year-old Thomas Brian Buchanan, fired multiple shots at the law enforcement agents. None of the deputies were injured, but this prompted those deputies to call the SWAT team to the home.

SWAT standoff with man at Paulding County home
Deputies said the SWAT team was called out after shots were fired at a woman and then at responding law enforcement officers.
After hours of attempted negotiations with no response from Buchanan, the SWAT Team entered the home, finding the man's body.
Investigators later determined Buchanan had shot himself in the head. None of the rounds fired by the deputies or troopers hit him.
Officials transported Buchanan's body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime lab for an autopsy.
