ATLANTA - The holiday season is a busy time for airports and can often be a stressful one for travelers, but there is one employee at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport working to ease passengers’ nerves.
J Fotha Griffin has worked at the airport for three years; he is a guest relations representative. As he walks through the airport you can see the friendliness in his smile and the warmth in his voice as he welcomes passengers in song.
"Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back," is what you can hear Griffin singing in the baggage claim area of the airport, bringing smiles to travelers’ faces.
Griffin said the idea came to him while working in Immigration and Customs.
"So people was coming off the plane and they was always saying, oh I am so glad to be back home, so I just started saying, welcome back welcome back welcome back," said Griffin.
Now it is part of his everyday work routine. His voice carries through the baggage claim area, turning heads, stopping folks in their busy track, capturing the heartwarming moment on their cell phones.
"It makes you forget about what you been through, you know, you had a rough flight or something like that and you come here and see something like that, I think that is a great feeling," said passenger, James Liu.
"Truly I be amazed because they come up to me and they say you have made my day and I am happy to make your day," said Griffin.
For the holidays he changes up his tune, singing holidays songs. Griffin said music has always been in his heart, since he was a little boy.
"I just listen to the radio and I just like music, so any type of song no matter what it is I just try to imitate the way the artist sings," said Griffin
In all his kindness, Griffin said he is grateful to have a job he enjoys and that he can make people happy while doing it.
"All my life try to be nice to people and if that's what makes them happy by singing to them that is what I will do," said Griffin.
