The hit and run happened Thursday evening at 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Ask Kay Drive.
Police released 2 photographs of what they believe is an early 2000 model white Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck with heavy damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle and a large toolbox mounted in the bed of the truck.
Investigators say the truck has a Georgia license plate, which possibly reads “RFM369” or “RFN369”.
The truck also has a red, white and blue “USA-1” plate on the front bumper.
Witnesses say the truck heading southbound on South Cobb Drive towards Concord Road by a driver who police describe as Hispanic between the ages of 20 and 30-years-old.
Officers with the Smyrna Police Department’s S.T.E.P. Unit are trying to identify the pedestrian who was killed. Police describe him as a black male with medium brown complexion who is between 50 and 60-years-old. The victim wore a blue hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants and carried a key ring with a Boost Mobile lanyard attached to it.
“The driver of that suspect vehicle initially stopped, realized what he had done, but then got back in his car and left the scene," Sgt. Louis Defense told FOX 5’s Patty Pan. "As a result of that, we are now aggressively looking to identify that driver and take that vehicle into custody so we can process it for evidence.”
