Fight leads to shooting in Snellville
Snellville police are investigating a deadly shooting near a popular shopping area. Investigators say a man was shot and killed on Scenic Highway.
SNELLVILLE, Ga. - A pretty busy shopping area in Snellville turned into a crime scene Saturday night as police worked to figure out what led up to a fatal shooting. Authorities say the shooting happened just before 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of Scenic Highway.
According to reports, someone fired shots after a large fight broke out, leaving one man dead. Snellville police say when officers arrived at the scene, they heard the gunshots and found the victim who had been hit in the chest.
The man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
"We’re living in terrible times. It’s becoming normal in many places," Gwinnett County resident Roger Ordonez told FOX 5.
Ordonez goes to a gym nearby. He says, as someone who frequents businesses sitting along Scenic Highway in Snellville, the sound of gunshots is an unfamiliar one.
"When I used to live here I never heard that," he recalled.
He tells FOX 5 it was an unsettling situation to find out about and his hope is that the person or people responsible are caught.
"I wouldn’t want to hear of a situation like that. The level of safety is complicated for many people," he added.
So far, police have not released any information about potential suspects or arrests. Authorities have not shared the name of the victim but tell FOX 5 the investigation is ongoing.
