The mayor of Snellville turned himself in on Thursday after being indicted on 66 counts just over a week ago by a Grand Jury.

Mayor Tom Witts has been under investigation for more than 4 years. A judge set his Witts' bond at $20,000.

Most of the charges have to do with tax evasion and false swearing and statements while Witts was a councilman and mayor.

"I've never seen this sort of array of behavior, the investigation took us all over the place," said Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter.

The mayor is also charged with theft by conversion charges. Porter said he used campaign funds for personal use.

"He was using campaign funds to pay for personal expenses like a cruise and airline tickets. He paid for a porn site with his campaign funds," said Porter.

Hours after the Grand Jury handed down the indictment, Mayor Witts said he had not seen the indictment yet, but seemed unphased by the news.

"It's the same thing I've been battling for two years, hopefully, this will show enough information to Danny so he can see what really happened," said Witts.

The mayor said he has a lot of support from the community.

"Lots of support, my phone is ringing and emails, lots of support, I'm blessed to have the following I have with the citizens," said Witts.
