Winter Storm Watch issued for portions of north Georgia, cold rain elsewhere

Wednesday Evening Weather Update

Increasing clouds tonight, rain by Thursday afternoon. An east wind will keep temps cool, lows in the upper 30s and highs in the upper 40s. Thursday night into Friday morning, the rain will change over to snow in extreme NE GA, with some minor accumulations by Friday morning. No winter weather impacts for metro Atlanta. Sunny and cool for the weekend

A cold front will be heading through Thursday and Friday that will bring an Arctic blast and cold rain for most of Georgia, but some portions of north Georgia could see some winter weather.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect Thursday evening through Friday evening for Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, and Rabun counties.

Rain is likely across North Georgia by Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

Rainfall rates will be around a half-inch.

Temperatures will be cool in the 40s with an east wind at 10 to 15 mph.

Thursday night into Friday morning, some colder air will move into extreme North Georgia, and in the mountains, above 2,000 feet, the rain will likely change to snow.

No winter weather impacts are expected for metro Atlanta. A few flurries are possible Friday morning, but temperatures will be well above freezing.
