STAFFORD, Va. - An Army soldier from Stafford County had a special surprise for his 9-year-old daughter at school.
Brent Mount had been deployed in Afghanistan since July, but he finally returned home to Virginia on Monday. However, his little girl was still under the impression that her father was still on duty serving his final tour overseas.
During his time away, Mount would communicate with his daughter Katie through Skype.
But with the help of his wife, Mount surprised his daughter with an emotional homecoming at Park Ridge Elementary School.
He came up from behind and tapped his daughter on the shoulder. As Katie turned around, they gave each other a big hug while her teachers and classmates cheered on.
“I'm excited and I’m happy and I'm just glad he's home,” Katie said.
“I was looking forward to seeing her face,” said Mount. “That's all I wanted – to see how she was going to react to it. I was really excited. Don't leave your daughters again. Don't do it. I did it. It was one thing I knew it was going to happen regardless. But I won't do it again. I won't leave her again.”
Mount said the first thing he was going to do together with his daughter was catch up with some Chick-fil-A, which was Katie’s choice.
