What they're saying:

Mayor Khalid expressed frustration over the situation, saying he was distressed and disappointed that they were tearing each other down, especially right before the beginning of Black History Month.

Council members, however, pointed to the unaccounted expenses, which reportedly include a trip to Africa. While the city currently lacks specific policies on international travel, officials emphasized that city funds cannot be used for personal expenses.

What's next:

The audit aims to clarify whether the spending violated city regulations and provide accountability for the charges in question.

Previously, the council voted to suspend international travel for the next 30 to 45 days while the current policy is reviewed.

The mayor has not answered requests for comment from FOX 5 Atlanta.
