It's safe to say that Spalding County Deputy Joseph Sandefur is having a bad week.

Within the span of five days, he has lost part of his home to fire, and suffered injuries in a car crash.
It started Wednesday when his clothes drier reportedly caught fire, burning several rooms in his home and destroying clothing and household goods. Sandefur says neighbors rushed over with buckets of water to try and help. he credit's their action with helping to save most of his home. The house has been in his family for quite some time, he says.

As FOX 5 News was coming to visit Sandefur to share the news of the fire and recovery, we learned that he was injured in a car crash Monday morning. Just days after the house fire. Sandefur's friend, Phillip Lindsey says it appears the Ford Mustang, driven by Sandefur, collided with an 18-wheeler. The deputy was injured and the vehicle appears to be totaled.

FOX 5 News spoke with Sandefur from his hospital room. He says he is in good spirits but in some pain. He acknowledges the incredible bout of bad luck he has faced. He says he appreciates the thoughts and prayers from the community.
