Stockbridge man sentenced to life in brutal stabbing
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A Stockbridge man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted in a horrific stabbing case.
The Cobb County District Attorney's Office said Johnathan Wheeler, 35 drove to Jerry Moore's home on Gravewood Drive in January 2014 and used a key to get inside. He then stabbed the victim 32 times, including several times in the back.
Moore was a partial owner of a bakery that was failing at the time and wanted out of the business. His work partner, Ross Byrne, was his roommate for several years. Byrne was also a "business mentor" to Wheeler.
Authorities said after Wheeler left the stabbing scene, he drove to Byrne's new home.
Wheeler confessed the murder to his cousin, and authorities said the next day he and his cousin returned to Moore's house and cleaned up the murder scene. They also are accused of stealing some of the victim's belongings.
Wheeler was convicted Monday morning on all counts, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and burglary. He was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without parole.
