Stone Mountain High School on lockdown: Weapon secured after being found on campus

Stone Mountain High School was placed on lockdown on Thursday after a weapon was found on campus. 

There were no threats, and no one was injured.

What we know:

According to the DeKalb County School District, administrators received a tip about the weapon and quickly performed a search for it. It was secured, and no one was harmed. School police then swept the campus for any additional illegal items but found none.

What we don't know:

The name and age of the student who police believe brought the weapon on campus has not been released.

It was not clear what type of weapon was found.

Stone Mountain High School Principal Michael Costa sent parents a letter that reads in part: 

"I applaud the response and professionalism of our administration, staff, campus supervisors, and DCSD Police in addressing the situation quickly and safely. 

"While I cannot discuss individual student disciplinary outcomes, I can let you know that all consequences will be guided by applicable Georgia laws and DCSD’s 2024-25 Code of Student Conduct. This ensures that the incident is handled fairly and thoroughly for anyone found to be involved."
