Stone Mountain Park hosts Lunar New Year celebration
Lunar New Year celebrations at Stone Mountain
The Lunar New Year began on Wednesday, and Stone Mountain Park is celebrating the Year of the Snake for the next two weekends.
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Lunar New Year began on Wednesday, which means we are officially in the Year of the Snake. And the celebration continues over the next two weekends at Stone Mountain Park, which is hosting an Asian-inspired festival filled with dancing, demos, drums, and drones!
Friday morning on Good Day Atlanta, we spent a few hours at Stone Mountain Park, learning more about the park’s third annual Lunar New Year Festival and getting some exclusive live entertainment from several of the festival’s talented performers. The festival launched last weekend and continues this Saturday and Sunday and next Saturday and Sunday, lighting up the park with hundreds of lanterns and lights and featuring a nightly parade with floats, dancers, and live music.
Instructors from the Chinese Cultural School of Atlanta will also lead craft activities throughout the festival, including calligraphy demonstrations, knot tying, and yo-yo making — a few of which we attempted this morning on live television. But, of course, nobody plans an explosive finale like Stone Mountain Park — and the festivities close out each evening at 8:30 p.m. with the Lunar New Year Drone Show (we’re talking 250 color-changing drones!), a light show, and a fireworks finale.
Festival hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. this weekend and next, and tickets are $19.99 when purchased online here. Combo tickets including the park’s popular Skyride are also available for $24.99 online.
