Storm clean up underway in Ellijay
GILMER COUNTY, Ga. - Powerful rains, hail and wind ripped through Ellijay leaving a mess for neighbors to clean up.
Dozens of trees came down on power lines, part of the road sunk into the ground, and several homes and campers were damaged in what residents describe as a tornado-like storm.
The Eubanks family hid in their basement with their dogs as trees cracked around their home.
Just down the road, Layla Sizemore says her dad was trapped in the back of their camper briefly when a tree came down on it.
She says the tree came through the roof, and her mother was screaming as water poured into her home.
Luckily, they were able to escape uninjured.
The Gilmer County Sheriff says they responded to countless calls overnight. One woman was taken to the hospital after a tree fell on her camper.
Power is expected to take days or weeks to restore.
