Student dies in Savannah State University shooting
SAVANNAH, Ga. - A student from metro Atlanta has died in a shooting at a college campus in Savannah.
Christopher Starks, who had just started his junior year at Savannah State University, was shot on campus Thursday night after a fight at the student union. He was the only one hurt and passed away at the hospital in Savannah early Friday morning. He had just turned 22-years-old ten days ago. We've learned Starks was a standout athlete at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia.
The shooting violence prompted a lockdown on campus that's since been lifted, but the search for the shooter is still taking place. The university said classes are delayed until 10:00 a.m. Friday morning.
"The safety of those who live, study, work and visit Savannah State University remains a top priority," officials with the university. "No exceptions."
A vigil will take place on campus Friday to remember Starks. It's set for noon.
