Diver encounters giant ocean sunfish off Mexico coast

While on an expedition off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a diver captured stunning footage of a fellow diver swimming alongside a sunfish.

Dramatic video shows just how big a sunfish can get after the footage showed a diver, appearing like a dwarf, alongside it.

The backstory:

The diver was on an expedition off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Luis Miguel Gutierres Bringas, a sea-diving tour operator, recorded the video and told Storyful it was a "once-in-a-lifetime moment."

According to Storyful, the ocean sunfish is the world’s heaviest bony fish. It weighs about 5,000 pounds, according to Monterey Bay Aquarium.

What they're saying:

"Finding a sunfish in its natural habitat is a privilege that few can experience. And we were lucky enough to swim with him, observe its behaviour and learn more about these amazing animals," he said.
