Survivor of tragic UGA car crash transferred to Shepherd Center

ATLANTA - The only survivor from a terrible crash that left four University of Georgia students dead has been transferred to Shepherd Center in Buckhead.

Agnes Kim was brought to Shepherd Center from Athens Regional Thursday afternoon.  She is being treated in the Brain Injury Unit's Disorders of Consciousness Program, which cares for patients who are semi-comatose or minimally conscious.  

A full team of experts from at least 15 different fields are working with the 21-year-old UGA student.  They are trying to prevent medical complication, monitoring for arousal, maximizing her mobility and training her family about long term care issues.

Late last month Kim was driving a car that investigators said crossed the center line and slammed into another vehicle in Oconee County. The other driver was treated and released, but all four of Kim's passengers, who were friends and fellow UGA students, died.  

The accident devastated the UGA community.

Kim's family said they appreciate the outpouring of support from both those with UGA ties and the community as a whole, but they are asking for privacy while they concentrate on her recovery.

Friends have set up a YouCaring.com web page, that's titled "Together for Agnes."  There people can get condition updates, leave messages of encouragement and make donations to help offset her medical related expenses.
