PIKE COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities have released more details about a deadly shooting involving a Pike County Sheriff's deputy.
It happened Wednesday afternoon in the 3100 block of Roberts Quarters Road. Pike County deputies responded to the scene after a 911 caller was being threatened by a man with a gun.
The first responding deputy arrived to find the suspect, identified as Grady Parks, to be armed with a shotgun and a handgun. The deputy gave verbal commands for Parks to put the guns down, but he refused. That's when a second deputy showed up to the scene and used a Taser on the suspect.
A physical struggle followed, then Parks opened fire on the two deputies, according to the Pike County Sheriff's Office. One of the deputies returned fire, striking Parks twice.
Parks was taken to Spalding Regional Hospital where he died.
The deputies weren't injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the case.
