One of four suspects charged in a violent home invasion last year has been sentenced to life in prison.

Last August, a man was shot during an attempted robbery at his home on Sumter Street in northwest Atlanta. His wife was able to escape as she was chased with their baby in her arms. The mother got outside and called 911.

The suspects, all of them 18 or younger at the time of the crime, got inside the home pretending they needed help fixing their car.

Brandon Smith was arrested five days after the home invasion. He was indicted on a number of charges including aggravated assault, armed robbery and first degree home invasion. He was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday.

In early September last year, Trequan Sutton, Quindarius Slade and Veshawn Smith turned themselves in to authorities. According to the indictment, the teens stole the gun they used in the shooting from Felix Smith, the day before the home invasion. All three received an 18-year prison sentence.
