Vigil held for Norcross High School student killed in off-campus shooting
The latest break in the case was announced as friends and family gathered at Henderson’s high school Friday night for a vigil.
"He was a great person and I just feel like it was so hurtful for them to do that," said Alexis Rivers.
Police said officers found Henderson shot at around noon Wednesday on Technology Drive about a mile from the high school. He died at a local hospital, according to police.
Investigators believe Henderson left the Norcross campus during school hours and was shot off-campus. Police called the shooting an isolated incident.
The loss hit his family hard.
"That's my baby brother, he didn't even make it to 18 yet," said Desmond Parks.
As the vigil was wrapping up, Gwinnett County investigators released two pictures of a man they said is a suspect in Henderson's killing.
Henderson's mom hopes an arrest comes quickly.
"That was my child, and you took his life, senseless," Kimberly Parks said. "Right now, I don't have any compassion for him."
Norcross student's death latest is series of violence targeting young people
This murder is another case of violence involving young people in metro Atlanta.
Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure addressed the recent string writing in a statement Friday night, "Families are losing far too many children and teenagers due to senseless violence and actions that could have been prevented. I want our young people to develop the courage to walk away from confrontation."
"I want it to end, but I don't think it will, it's just the evilness in the world. Unfortunately, he was caught up in it," Kimberly said.
The family of DeAndre Henderson have set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money to pay for his funeral
