Teen charged with murder in deadly southwest Atlanta shooting

An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred on Sept. 23 in southwest Atlanta, police announced Thursday.

Kortez Ragland, 18, is accused of felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The shooting happened just after noon on Sept. 23 at 875 Metropolitan Parkway SW.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded and discovered two males suffering from gunshot wounds. One, an unidentified male, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The other, also 18, was transported to a local hospital and described as being in stable condition at the time of transport. His current condition is unknown.

According to investigators, the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the two individuals. The police have not disclosed the nature of the dispute or released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.

Ragland was being held in Fulton County Jail on unrelated charges.
