FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Fulton County fire crews worked early Monday, spraying water on a smoldering home on Lantern Lane.
The family inside are alive because of alert children. They smelled smoke and screamed for the rest of the family to wake up. The four kids, ranging in ages 7 to 23, made it outside, along with their father and his girlfriend.

The flames devoured the kitchen, living room and carport.
Family members say smoke alarms are installed, but didn't go off until fire crews had already arrived. An investigation is now underway into what sparked the fire.
A family pet didn't survive, according to fire officials.
