The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of recent burglaries of vacant homes for sale. The thieves are stealing kitchen appliances.

"They've taken, microwaves, stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators," said Fayette County Sheriff's Detective Clint Patton.

The detective said six vacant houses all listed for sale were targeted by thieves in the past two weeks. Thousands of dollars’ worth of appliances have been stolen. The targeted homes are scattered across the county.

Someone broke in through the back door of one home and stole the dishwasher, kitchen, stove and microwave. The homeowner discovered the break-in Tuesday, when he checked on his property.

Detective Patton said it is not known if the burglaries are connected.

No one reported suspicious activity at the homes around the time the burglaries would have occurred. There was evidence of a break-in at some of the properties, but no sign of forced entry in at least one burglary.

While investigators work leads in the case, they are asking residents to keep an eye out for unusual activity.

"Things that appear normal actually could be suspicious with trucks backed up to a house that's vacant. They might think someone's moving into it," said Detective Patton.
