Three individuals were arrested early Friday on drug trafficking and firearms charges following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 41 near Resaca, the Gordon County Sheriff's Office reported.

Deputies on patrol stopped a suspicious vehicle around midnight, leading to the discovery of large quantities of illegal drugs and unlawfully possessed firearms during a search of the car. The three occupants were taken into custody without incident.

The suspects were identified as Margie Russell, 50, of Calhoun; Cody Anderson, 33, of Dalton; and Kelly Parks, 42, of Sugar Valley. All three face charges of drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, and weapons violations.

Authorities revealed that Russell was already a fugitive at the time of her arrest, wanted on theft-related warrants. Sheriff's officials noted that she has a lengthy criminal history, with at least 30 prior arrests in the area. In addition to the new charges, Russell faces an additional count of bringing drugs across a jail guard line.

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office did not release further details about the investigation.
