Three charged with murdering 16-year-old in his own yard in Lovejoy
LOVEJOY, Ga. - Lovejoy police have charged two adults and one minor with killing a 16-year-old boy in his own yard.
Loved ones identified the victim as Antonio Walker, 16. He died in the Nov. 14 shooting near Calvary Drive in the Lovejoy Station Subdivision.
Police have charged Quentisha Bryant, 35, Jamari McCray, 20, with malice murder and armed robbery among other crimes, according to jail records.
A minor has also been charged, but police withheld his identity because of his age.
Walker's family talked exclusively with FOX 5's Rob DiRienzo.
"They might as well have shot me," Denise Walker, his mother, said. "I would have taken that bullet for my son."
Antonio’s little brother, Amir Rodriguez, described his sibling as a role model and best friend.
"Antonio was brave, he was strong," Rodriguez said. "He taught me everything. He taught me how to do a backflip, how to throw a football, how to play basketball. And now, I just can’t even see my brother."
The loss has left an unfillable void in the Walker family right before the holidays.
"It hurts me so bad every day," Denise Walker said. "I try every day. And it hurts so bad trying to keep it together for the other kids."
Investigators are still working to determine why Antonio may have been targeted.
The investigation remains active, with investigators pursuing additional individuals who may have been involved.
Amir Rodriguez said he'd give the world just for a little more time with his big brother.
"I just want to see him, like right here," he said. "Have fun and just talk, chitchatting with each other."
The suspects are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear at preliminary hearings on January 13.
