A Forsyth County girl is recovering from a dog mauling after being bitten in the face and leg.

The family of three-year-old Aubree said she was reaching down for something when the boxer-pit bull mix came at her while she was visiting a family friend in Cumming.

"She was just looking at me and she was saying mommy, mommy," said Aubree's mother Angela Campbell.  "I could not do anything, couldn't pick her up couldn't hold her, I just had to stand there and just let the nurses take care of her."

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Aubree was bitten in the face, close to her eye and lip.  She was also bitten in her leg, medics counted between 15 to 20 puncture wounds on her leg.

"Her cheek, she had her skin hanging all the way down here," said Campbell.  "The bottom of her lip like down here, was off."

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 5 that the dog did not have a history of aggression, but has now been deemed "vicious."

Authorities said the dog is under quarantine at Forsyth County Animal Control and it's up to the owner whether or not to put the dog down.

"I want that dog gone, I want proof that he is gone," said Campbell.

In addition to recovering, little Aubree is also undergoing rabies shots and could possibly undergo reconstructive surgery in the future. The medical bills are mounting for the three-year-old who does not have insurance.  Community members have already sent the family donations through a website set up for Aubree's medical bills.

"I am so thankful grateful to everybody out there that has donated money and helping with everything," said Aubree's grandmother Tracy Campbell. "I do appreciate it, we all do."

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said there will not be criminal charges filed against the dog's owner.
