NEWNAN, Ga. - A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after his car was struck by a train Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. on Wash Johnson Road near the 2500 block of Highway 29 North in Newnan. Authorities say the car flipped over and caught fire.
The driver had to be pulled from the car. He was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.
No word on why the car was on the tracks when the train came through. The road crossing the tracks does not have lights or bars.
Officials said there were hazardous materials aboard the train, but nothing spilled and the train did not derail.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
The name of the driver has not yet been released.
