MARTA Police: Man slipped on platform, fell on tracks in front of train

MARTA police don't believe anything criminal occurred and the man's death was a accident. The victim remains unidentified.

Police said a man hit and killed by a MARTA train Tuesday morning in Midtown Atlanta accidentally fell onto the tracks.

Officials say at around 7:40 a.m., the man fell off the platform the southbound trackway at the Midtown Station on 10th Street.

Investigators have not identified the victim, whose body had to be recovered after it was stuck under the train.

MARTA Police Major Fredrico Jackson said the man was standing in a "restricted area" on the platform when he lost balance and fell. He said investigators haven't discovered anything criminal in nature.

"Based on what we have now, it appears the subject slipped, and it was an accident," Jackson said.

The death is still under investigation.

Atlanta Fire Rescue and MARTA police were at Midtown Station. First responders were waiting for the medical examiner.

The incident caused service at the Midtown station to shut down temporarily.

MARTA officials say northbound service has terminated at Civic Center and southbound service ends at Lindbergh Center.

Due to the service disruption, MARTA offered a $15 Uber credit through MARTAConnect, which riders can receive here: https://r.uber.com/rTut5vSfmcP
