Trio of Arson Fires at Apartment Complex
GWINNETT COUNTY - A Lilburn apartment community is on edge after an arsonist set a trio of fires at their complex.
It happened at the Brentwood Downs complex on Pleasant Hill Road. Arson investigators with Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said someone set fire to the lower section of the club house, to an outside door of that same building and to some nearby shrubbery by the pool.
They said the trio of arson fires was set within minutes of each other two Sunday nights ago around 8 p.m. Firefighters told FOX 5 News they doused the blaze before it had a chance to destroy the building.
Captain Tommy Rutledge said arson investigators are trying to determine who is responsible and what the motive might be.
Residents Daniel and Jennifer Shaffer said they had not heard of the arson related fires from management. Several other residents told FOX 5 News the same thing.
Daniel Shaffer said he suspected the crime could have been directed at the apartment management since the fires occurred at the leasing office. Jennifer Shaffer said it was unfortunate to hear about something so senseless so close to the holidays.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Georgia Arson Control Hotline, which offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the arson. The hotline number is 1-800-282-5804.
