Trooper Involved in Fatal Crash Fired
ATLANTA - The state trooper involved in a fatal crash in Carroll County that killed two teens and injured two others has been fired.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said that Trooper A.J. Scott was fired amid the findings of an investigation into the crash that happened Saturday night at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Holly Springs Drive in Carroll County. Investigators said that Scott was exceeding the speed post 55 mph speed limit by as much as 35 mph just prior striking the vehicle carrying the four teenagers. Trooper Scott was not responding to an emergency and didn't have his lights and sirens activated, according to the investigation.
Isabella Chinchilla, 16, and Kylie Lindsey, 17, were killed in the crash.
Benjamin Finken, 17, and Dillon Wall, 18, remain in the hospital recovering from their injuries.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said Scott has three business days to appeal. His last official day is Oct. 7.
